PAINTERLY THOUGHTS

The painting is complete when I feel it has a heartbeat and thereby the potential to move and inspire. ~ Arnor Bieltvedt

Painting is poetry that is seen rather than felt, and poetry is painting that is felt rather than seen ~ Leonardo da Vinci

Painting is silent poetry, and poetry is painting that speaks. ~ Plutarch

Art washes away from the soul the dust of everyday life. Perhaps Pablo Picasso said this, but he was quoting from Berthold Auerbach, a German novelist (1812 – 1882), who said Music washes away from the soul the dust of everyday life.

Art enables us to find ourselves and lose ourselves at the same time. ~ Thomas Merton (American and Trappist Monk - Our Lady of Gethsemani Abbey in Trappist, Kentucky, 1915-1968)
